Getting Started Guide
Starting therapy can feel like a big step. This guide explains what to expect, how to prepare, and how we’ll work together to make your sessions meaningful and effective.
-
1
Schedule a Consultation
Book a brief phone or video call to discuss your needs, ask questions, and decide next steps. Consultations are no-obligation, confidential, and HIPAA-compliant.
Sessions are fully HIPAA-compliant and end-to-end encrypted for your privacy.
If you are in crisis, call 911 or 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
-
2
Complete Intake Forms
You’ll receive secure PsyBooks forms online covering background, goals, and consent so we can tailor care from day one.
- All data is encrypted and stored securely.
- Share only what feels relevant; we can discuss details live.
-
3
Prepare for Your First Session
Choose a quiet, private space and test your camera, microphone, and internet connection. Headphones can help with privacy and audio clarity.
- Have a notebook if you like to jot down insights.
- Optional: reflect on what you’d like to focus on first.

What to Expect in Sessions
The first session focuses on getting to know you, clarifying goals, and outlining an approach. Standard sessions are 60 minutes; frequency is set together (weekly, biweekly, etc.).
Our style is collaborative and practical — we’ll move at a pace that works for you.
-
5
Ongoing Support & Review
We’ll review progress regularly and adjust the plan as your needs evolve. Resources for burnout, moral injury, or peer support can be added when helpful.
-
6
Payment & Policies (Brief)
Private-pay only; payment is due at the time of session via our secure portal. Please review our Session Guidelines for details on cancellations, privacy, and emergencies.
